Andrea Messina

Andrea is an innovative leader and passionate strategist with more than two decades of experience leading philanthropy, communications and organizational change initiatives across the social and private sectors. Committed to racial and social justice, Andrea has raised more than $100 million for non-profit organizations, previously serving as Executive Vice President & Chief Development Officer at the Humane Rescue Alliance and Chief Development Officer at Bread for the City.
Andrea is passionately committed to addressing racial, gender and economic injustices in the criminal legal system, and she possesses deep experience elevating organizations serving those who are incarcerated and formerly incarcerated. She is excited to join The Sentencing Project team and help further our mission to end mass incarceration and its collateral consequences.
Andrea lives in the DC area with her husband, daughter and two bonus sons. When she isn’t advocating for social sector organizations or chasing after her toddler, you can find her on a yoga retreat somewhere between South India and Shepherdsville, WV, taking in a performance of dance or theater somewhere in the DC Metro, or on a neighborhood walk with her rescue Chihuahua Mama Mia and Goldendoodle Poppy.
