Joseph Lascaze

Youth Justice Engagement Manager

Joseph Lascaze serves as The Sentencing Project’s Youth Justice Engagement Manager. In this role, he seeks to rewrite the narrative of justice-involved youth by creating opportunities for and collaborating with young people to share their stories. In partnership with community leaders, Joseph seeks to develop programming to better support youth and families caught in the system.

As a lifelong advocate, Joseph’s theory of change emphasizes centering the voices of those with lived experience. Joseph is also a contributing author on several publications addressing the untold stories of the justice system, such as What is a Criminal?: Answers from Inside the U.S. Justice System and in the co-authored publication, Community-Partnered Training in Trauma-Informed Primary Care for Patients Experiencing Reentry From Incarceration.

Prior to joining TSP, Joseph served as the Regional Manager for the ACLU of New Hampshire’s Smart Justice campaign, where he brought stakeholders together to enact meaningful legislative reform on prison policies in New Hampshire and mentored youth facing possible criminal sanctions. Joseph is particularly proud of his work to end both the shackling of pregnant women and the use of private prisons in New Hampshire.

For his civic engagement in his home state of New Hampshire, Joseph was awarded the “Changemaker of the Year” award in 2022.
