Ricardo Ferrell has served 42 years of a life sentence in Michigan prisons. During his time behind bars, the Detroit native has turned his life around – becoming a writer, field editor for Voice of Detroit, and a member of the Michigan chapter of the National Lifer’s Association.
Ricardo plays an active role educating his fellow residents in prison about the importance of second look reforms and he partners with The Sentencing Project to organize advocacy efforts around second look legislation in Michigan. He values the partnership he’s formed with The Sentencing Project’s advocacy team.
“To have dedicated people like you [at The Sentencing Project] advocating for sweeping change in this system, whereby we can be afforded a second chance, is absolutely remarkable.”
