Pennsylvania holds the second highest number of people serving life sentences — 8,242 individuals — both in the country and the world. While two thirds of life sentenced persons will not be released, those paroled experience lifetime supervision. The Pennsylvania General Assembly is considering ending lifetime parole supervision. The Sentencing Project’s Sentencing Director of Advocacy, Nicole D. Porter provided recommendations to end and scale back lifetime parole supervision.
